Eisenhower Matrix

The Eisenhower Matrix is a task prioritisation framework used by US President Dwight Eisenhower and popularised by Stephen Covey. It divides tasks into four quadrants based on urgency and importance, helping you focus on what truly matters and eliminate what doesn't.

Use it free in your browser — no account or download required.

Key Features

How to Use Eisenhower Matrix

  1. Step 1: Brain-dump all your tasks
Write down every task on your mind, no matter how small. Don't organise yet — just get everything out of your head. This alone reduces anxiety and creates mental clarity.
  2. Step 2: Assign each task to a quadrant
For each task, ask two questions: Is it urgent (needs attention soon)? Is it important (contributes to long-term goals or significant consequences if ignored)? Place it in the appropriate quadrant.
  3. Step 3: Do quadrant 1 tasks first (Urgent + Important)
These are crises, deadlines, and pressing problems. Handle them immediately. The goal is to keep this quadrant small by being proactive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between urgent and important?

Urgent tasks demand immediate attention — they have short deadlines or immediate consequences. Important tasks contribute to long-term goals and values. Many urgent tasks are not actually important (e.g., most notifications). Many important tasks are never urgent until they become crises.

Is my matrix saved automatically?

Yes — your tasks are saved in your browser's local storage. They persist between sessions as long as you use the same browser and don't clear your browser data.
