How to Calculate Your Notice Period — Step-by-Step Guide
Learn how to calculate your exact last working day from your notice period. Covers contract types, public holidays, and what to check before you resign.
Step 1: Enter your resignation date This is the date you formally notify your employer — usually the date you hand in your resignation letter. If you haven't resigned yet, use today's date to plan ahead.
Step 2: Enter your notice period length Check your employment contract for the exact notice period. Enter the number and unit: days, weeks, or months. Common periods are 2 weeks, 1 month, or 3 months.
Step 3: Select your working week Most contracts run Monday–Friday. If you work a non-standard week (e.g., Sunday–Thursday in some countries), adjust accordingly so the calculator counts only your actual working days.
Step 4: Review your last working day The calculator displays your exact last working day. This is the final date you are expected to work, after which you are free to start a new role.
Step 5: Note any public holidays Public holidays are typically included in notice period counts (i.e., they don't extend your notice) unless your contract explicitly states 'working days only'. Check your contract to be sure.
